Translated as “The gentle way,” Judo is a complete sport with physical, psychological, and social benefits for children and adults. An Olympic sport since 1964, there are over 20 million members worldwide.

Judo is considered by the UNESCO as the most valuable sport in the world for children’s education and development.

Judo is proven as an effective form of self defense.

Judo for Children

We formulated our Judo children’s program to appropriately reach different age groups, from 4 to 13 years old. We offer classes with emphasis on technical, psychological, and behavioral skills. We also incorporate foundational Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) concepts into our Judo program. The benefits of Judo for children include increased coordination, balance, fitness, socialization, discipline, self- esteem, and more.

Safety is priority:
A major aspect of Judo consists of instructing participants how to fall safely. This alone is responsible for injury prevention in and especially out of the gym.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) proves to be the most resourceful single combat sport in the world and is a major component of MMA. Although BJJ still possesses a relatively small number of members worldwide, BJJ enjoys the fastest growing number of new members in Martial Arts today. BJJ is an amazing sport for self defense as well as for physical and mental development. With safety and well-being at the forefront, our BJJ program delivers a personalized high level of instruction.

BJJ for Teens

Our BJJ teen program focuses on the technical, mental, and the behavioral skills of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. However, the program covers more broadly the competitive aspects of BJJ. In these classes we will also teach foundational Judo concepts. The BJJ teen members over 17 years old are welcome to attend the adult classes as long as they are enrolled in the BJJ youth program.

BJJ for Adults

Our BJJ adult program prioritizes safety and well-being. We believe that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu should be taught in a way that brings the technical, physical (fitness and flexibility), and mental aspect of the sport under one umbrella. We offer two different classes for adults, Fundamentals (foundation and intermediate) and Level-1 (advanced and mastering).

BJJ Fundamentals: In Fundamentals, we stress the foundation of the sport, building a solid base for the future. The class starts with a dynamic warm-up followed by drilling of technique. Class ends with usually two rolling sessions (BJJ term for sparring). We also cover Judo basic concepts.

BJJ Level-1: Level 1 of the program encompasses a complex curriculum of techniques and higher intensity workouts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Level 1 is designed for blue belts and above. The program also covers Judo and wrestling techniques more broadly. Following technique drilling, there are typically 3-6 rolling sessions.

Woman’s BJJ: Our Woman’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a well-rounded class focusing on Jiu Jitsu fundamentals and creating a solid base in the sport. Each class begins with a dynamic warm-up, followed by Jiu Jitsu drills, and ending with a couple rounds of light rolling (sparring) to hone the techniques. Judo throws are also taught. This class is ideal for women seeking to gain self-defense skills, improve overall fitness and mobility, and increase confidence.

Created by Master Gichin Funakoshi, Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art. This karate style is designed to teach the student techniques of striking, blocking, and kicking while also focusing on one’s personal character development. Shotokan Karate promotes flexibility, agility, speed, discipline, focus, balance, self-confidence, and much more. It can be enjoyed by all ages and is a lifelong sport.

Karate for Youth

Our children’s karate program was created to build a solid foundation in Shotokan Karate with the focus on proper stances, form, and techniques. Children are also taught various katas (a martial arts routine made of various striking and kicking combos which is practiced until memorized) and some self-defense techniques.

Kickboxing for Teens

Our teen kickboxing class has roots in Shotokan Karate. The student learns proper striking and kicking techniques while maintaining good form. The use of punching bags, pads, and partner drills are emphasized in this class. Sometimes light sparring takes place with protective gear to hone the practical application of the techniques taught.

Vision Impaired Programs

The V7 Blind and Vision Impaired Program (B&VI), primarily utilizes Judo while incorporating the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The program emphasizes socialization, balance, fitness, self-defense, motivation, and empowerment. Judo falls are a major aspect of injury prevention and are strongly emphasized in this program.

Judo is considered one of the best sport choices for the visually impaired and is the only Martial Arts included in the Para-Olympic games. Our program encourages the participation in competitive Judo and BJJ events.

The use of the sense of sight is considered secondary in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, making it ideal and a more even sport for Blind and Vision Impaired individuals.

V7’s B&VI program centers on a personalized approach to the students with a slightly different method of teaching. Our program starts with the recognition of the training space, followed by technical instructions primarily using the tactile and auditory senses. Judo falls remain a major aspect of injury prevention and are emphasized in this program. We also encourage members of this program to participate in the regular Judo and BJJ classes.

Blind and Vision Impaired Children Judo Program

Our Blind and Vision Impaired children program takes into consideration each age group. The classes are detailed-oriented starting with the recognition of the practice area and its surroundings. Judo primarily uses the tactile and auditory senses thus making it an ideal sport for the blind and the vision impaired. We promote a safe and fun way to engage in fitness, as well as cognitive and behavioral development. We also emphasize injury prevention through Judo fall techniques.

Blind and Vision Impaired Adult Judo program

Our adult program takes into consideration each member’s level of fitness and aspirations within the sport. The program, as mentioned above, is specifically designed to maximize the level of learning and the level of benefits generated by the sport of Judo and BJJ. With our adult program, we will encourage the participation in sporting events and tournaments. We believe our program is a big step towards an even higher quality of life.

Mixed Martial Arts

MMA Fitness Program

Our program takes into consideration the aspirations and fitness level of each member. The program uses all five major disciplines mentioned above and raises the bar a notch in terms of fitness. The results experienced through MMA training are spectacular. We also take seriously the mental benefits associated with this form of Martial Arts, including increases in concentration, motivation, self esteem, and empowerment. MMA Fitness is a serious and fun way to better youself. Note: in order to compete in any amateur MMA events, a V7 member needs to be enrolled in the Judo and or BJJ programs.

MMA Professional Team program

V7 takes pride in our MMA Professional Team and we aim to support our athletes with a great level of technical training, coaching, and mentorship in order to bring each team member to their highest level. Professional athletes are subject to approval.

HIIT 45 (Starting up again on Tues, Jan 16, 2018!)

HIIT, or High-Intensity Interval Training, is a fast paced interval training system with intense exercises completed at maximum output followed by short rest periods. HIIT workouts are an effective form of conditioning by bringing and keeping the heart rate up with whole body exercises. Exercises range from using one’s bodyweight (such as pull-ups, lunges, push-ups) to various training equipment such as medicine balls (ball slam, ball squat, and etc.).

This class is for people with busy schedules and are wanting a great workout in minimum time. Our HIIT classes follow a 45 minute time-frame with 10 minute warm-up, 25 minute circuit training, and 10 minute cool-down. The main goals of this class are to increase muscular endurance and strength, burn calories, and keep one’s heart rate elevated.
